Chemtrails

My traditional Lana Del Rey write-up. Ten things I learned while listening to her latest album. Should become a regular feature.

1. There is actually a difference between this album and every other Lana Del Rey album that came before it. Chemtrails Over The Country Club is even more soporific.

2. If you are making a Lana Del Rey compilation with best songs cherry picked from her LPs, let me point you in the direction of the title song and possibly "Dark But Just A Game".

3. For some reason, this album got woke people angry - so apparently Lana is doing something right.

4. "Dance Till We Die" is a very bad song.

5. There is no signature transcendental moment on Chemtrails. I guess the vocal hookline of the title song could qualify, but it is nowhere near as impressive as the hook in "Beautiful People Beautiful Problems", the chorus in "West Coast" or the whole of "Video Games".

6. This album gets 6/10, just like any other Lana Del Rey album.

7. The Joni Mitchell cover that finishes this album was completely unnecessary but Lana does it well. And, under all those layers of fake feeling and lush pretension, you can hear what separates the profound from the superficial.

8. She chose to sing the opening "White Dress" in this ultra-whispery voice that just sounds... uncomfortable.

9. Please, someone, put me out of my misery and tell me which song she rips off in the chorus of "Yosemite". I mean, the verse could be ripped off as well, but that chorus melody is criminal.

10. According to NME, Lana Del Rey is now on a par with Stevie Nicks. NME, with all due respect, fuck off
