Tindersticks might be
my favourite band of near-brilliance. And by near-brilliance I mean that they
don’t overwhelm. They leave you on the verge of orgasm, they almost knock you down. Almost, but not
quite.
That extra punch that is
missing – I’ve come to realise it could actually be the whole point. It’s
intricate and it’s elusive. “Travelling Light”, “Another Night In”, “Kathleen”,
etc. They all have moments that threaten to kill (like Furniture’s “Brilliant
Mind” does), but they never really do. Fantastic music all the same. Stylish, brooding,
beautifully understated.
