Jessica Pratt

Certain albums are out of time. They creep out of a tight crack in the wall and tell you what a vulgar existence you are leading now. Not just vulgar but shallow and compromised. Jessica Pratt’s On Your Own Love Again is one of those albums.

9 songs in 28 minutes. Who the hell does that anymore. Timeless voice and timeless melodies balancing simplicity with sophistication. The guitar on “I’ve Got A Feeling” stumbles on chilling perfection almost unwittingly. “Everybody’s Been Burned” – if less suicidal.

I mean, what can you say about a record starting with a line like ‘People’s faces blend together like a watercolour you can’t remember in time’?..
